Luminaria Ski during Rio Frio Ice Fest

When: Friday, January 27th, time TBD

Where: Blanca Vista Park, Alamosa

Come out and enjoy a magical ski or snowshoe around the park at night. The trail will be lit with luminaria and hot beverages may be on offer. 

 

Fun Ski/Snowshoe and Ski Clinic at the historic 4UR Ranch!

When: Saturday, February 4th, 9am – 2pm

Where: 4UR Ranch, off of highway 149 near Wagon Wheel Gap (Google Map Link)

Come and enjoy a unique opportunity to cross-country ski and snowshoe at the historic 4UR Ranch this winter! Free skiing and snowshoeing will be available all day. Beginner and intermediate classic cross-country ski lessons will be available in the morning and a skate ski lesson will be available after lunch. 

This is a free event. Donations and membership purchases or renewals are appreciated. 

If you would like to join us, but don’t have skis, rentals are available at Kristi Mountain Sports in Alamosa, and at Doc’s and 8200 Mountain Sports in South Fork. Check out our rental information page for their info!

Full Moon Ski at Big Meadows

When: Saturday, January 7th, 5pm

Where: Meet at the Big Meadows trailhead

Come out and enjoy a full moon ski with other folks. Dress warmly and bring a headlamp or flashlight in case the moon’s hiding behind some clouds.

Annual Ski/Gear Swap

Thank you to everyone who participated in the swap this year!

Sponsored by San Juan Nordic Club and Alamosa Family Recreation Center.

When:  Saturday, December 10th from 10am – 1pm. 
Where: The Alamosa Family Recreation Center at 2222 Old Sanford Rd.

Donate, sell or buy outdoor gear! Items may either be sold for personal profit or donated and sold by the Club to support our mission of grooming trails for non-motorized use.

Selling or Donating Gear

Dropping off gear for donation and registration to sell items will occur Friday, December 9th from 1pm – 5pm or Saturday, December 10th from 9am-10am.

Selling Gear: Registration is $1 per item. 10% of the sales go to the San Juan Nordic Club.

Early Season Social

Come out to meet old friends and new. Looking for some folks to hit the nordic trails with this season?  You should join us! 

We’ll have memberships for sale. And if you have any gear to donate to the ski swap this year and want it out of the house asap, bring it along and we’ll take it off your hands.

A food truck will be on site.

Rock Creek Trail Work Day

Believe it or not, winter is just around the corner. And so, it’s almost time for our annual Rock Creek Trail Work Day!
 
This year, the San Juan Nordic Club is collaborating with Katie Goodleaf and Volunteer Outdoors Colorado (VOC) for our trail work day. Some of you are already familiar with VOC but if you aren’t, check out their webpage. They offer great trail work opportunities, as well as a variety of other projects around the state. Date: Saturday, October 8th
Time: 9am – 4pm-ish
 
Trail Work: There are a considerable number of blow down trees to be cut and some corridor work to be done There will be a mix of work to include brushing, limbing and crosscutting to clear downed trees from the trails. 
 
What to Bring:
Food & Water

Work Gloves

Sunscreen
If you have your own loppers, small hand saws, crosscut saw or brush saw (for knocking down grass in the meadow), feel free to bring them. We will provide tools as well.
 
 
We will meet at the gate at the end of the Archery Range Road (near the picnic table), which is off of County Rd 28 about 6 miles beyond the end of the pavement.
 
Directions from Monte Vista, Colorado
  • Go south on CO-15 S/S Broadway St 2.3 miles
  • Turn right onto W Co Rd 2 S. Go 2.5 miles
  • Follow road to the left onto Co Rd 28. Go 3.5 miles
  • Turn right to stay on Co Rd 28. Go 6.1 miles
  • Turn left onto Co Rd 28D (sign will say Archery Range and Dick Boyce trails). Go 0.4 miles. Parking area is on the left.

Ski/Gear Swap
